In her work, Erin Carney engages with states of being, interior landscapes, and investigations of attention and perception. Her paintings express intense emotion, felt-sense, and especially the part of our psyche where we experience something in the body before it is named in the mind. The paintings range from representational to abstract and reflect an interplay between observational and sensate experience. Her favorite landscapes include the mind in meditation, the rocky tide pools of the North Atlantic, climax forests of Michigan, and the fallow hilltop fields of New York State.
