At and Just Below, the current series, looks at the ocean surface and surrounding tidal pools from an arial and often imagined perspective. These paintings reference states of being, interior landscapes, and investigations of attention and perception. They strive to include intense emotion, felt sense, and especially the part of our psyche where we experience something in the body before it is named in the mind. Since their inception, the work has shifted away from the observational and sensate experience of being next to the ocean and into greater abstraction.
